BorgWarner has announced that its eGearDrive transmission will be used in the Geely EC7-EV, which is scheduled to launch on the Chinese car market in Q1 2016.

The Chinese automaker’s first mass-produced EV is powered by a 96 kW electric motor and features a top speed of 87 mph and a range of 157 miles.

Specifically designed for the EV market, BorgWarner’s eGearDrive transmission is available in a wide range of ratios for a variety of motor sizes. It is designed to achieve high torque capacity in a compact package that minimizes size and weight demands.

“Demand for BorgWarner’s innovative eGearDrive transmission is growing significantly in the Chinese market, where we expect to launch several programs with major automakers in the next few months, said Dr. Stefan Demmerle, President and General Manager, BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems.
