Daimler Truck introduces Freightliner eM2 to the North American market

Daimler Truck North America has announced that series production of its Freightliner eM2 truck for urban delivery applications will begin in the fall at its Portland, Oregon, plant.

The new model, built on the Freightliner M2 106 Plus platform, joins the company’s current line of vehicles, including the Freightliner eCascadia Class 8 tractor, the electric Jouley school bus from Thomas Built Buses and the FCCC MT50e van.

The company says the eM2 Class 6 powertrain provides up to 190 continuous horsepower with a 194 kWh battery, and has a typical range of 180 miles; the Class 7 powertrain provides up to 255 continuous horsepower with a 291 kWh battery, and has a range of 250 miles. The Detroit ePowertrain with Detroit eAxles and batteries, says Daimler, is a simpler and lighter design that packages the motors and two-speed transmission directly onto the drive axles.
