The field for the Electric Class of the 2012 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, which takes place July 3-8, gets wilder every day. A pair of Mitsubishis and a converted BMW will be fearsome competitors, but this week Team APEV (Association for the Promotion of Electric Vehicles) stole the spotlight as it revealed its Monster Sport E-RUNNER Pikes Peak Special, a custom racer with a carbon fiber body and bubble roof.
At the wheel of this striking vehicle will be Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima, who has turned in the top time at Pikes Peak for the last six years.
The “Race to the Clouds” route has been completely paved since last year’s race, so it seems certain that Tajima’s record time of 9:51 will be shattered.
