PREMO releases high-power common-mode chokes for on-board EV chargers

Spanish magnetic components manufacturer PREMO has introduced new four-phase, high-power common-mode chokes for EMC noise filtering in on-board EV chargers of up to 22 kW.

The 4CMCN065R0-16H and 4CMCN065R0-32H automotive-grade chokes have a 32 mm low profile, less than 5.8 cm3 size and more than 98.5% efficiency—which makes them ideal for use in EVs where space and energy efficiency are critical, the company said. They can filter power line high-frequency noise and reduce electromagnetic interference.

The chokes fulfill the automotive AECQ200 industry reliability standards and operate from -40° C to +125° C. The 4CMCN065R0-16H and 4CMCN065R0-32H versions can withstand 16 A and 32 A of current, respectively. The designs maximize the thermal coupling of core and copper using CoolMag thermal interface materials.

“The current production in Vietnam plants is fully automated by using collaborative robots from PREMO Robotics and quality is controlled by AI,” according to the company.
