Italian automotive supplier Marelli has developed a new version of its battery management system (BMS) for automotive applications, to be released in 2025.
Based on Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy, the next-generation Marelli Energy Full EIS system is capable of early anomaly detection, preventing thermal runaway.
The BMS is designed to enable higher frequency measurements and provide a comprehensive overview of each battery cell’s condition. It integrates cloud tracking and AI applications to optimize real-time estimation of the state of charge (SoC) and state of power (SoP) of a battery pack, to evaluate its remaining useful life and degradation.
“The adoption of EIS and AI in BMS technology is anticipated to grow substantially in the coming years, enhancing safety, reliability, and performance standards in battery management for electric vehicles,” said Giovanni Mastrangelo, CTO of Marelli’s Propulsion Solutions business.
