LG Energy Solution (LGES) has selected Dr. Peter Kyungsuk Pyun for its newly created Chief Digital Officer (CDO) position.

“Based on his accumulated experience in world-renowned firms, we expect LGES to take a further step forward in battery manufacturing processes by utilizing AI and big-data technology,” said an LGES spokesperson.

After earning a PhD in electrical engineering at Stanford, Dr. Pyun worked on autonomous vehicle, industrial AI and cloud AI projects as a principal data scientist at Nvidia. He also led an industrial AI project on defect inspection for manufacturing products which is currently part of the AI curriculum at MIT.

“We are thrilled to have him, as Dr. Pyun is the right fit who is capable of accelerating efforts to turn LGES’s global battery manufacturing facilities into smart factories,” said LGES.

LGES says smart factories will enable data-driven decisions, support automatic calibration, prevent battery-related issues and boost profitability by reducing quality-related costs.
