Battery manufacturer Kreisel Electric has started construction on a new factory in Rainbach, Austria, which it calls 3K One. When the 67,000-square-foot plant comes online in March 2017, it will have the capacity to produce 800,000 kWh worth of batteries per year.
The new facility will feature a fully automated production line, and will also host the development of prototypes and software and engineering development. A rooftop 200-kW photovoltaic system will produce energy to be stored in Kreisel stationary batteries.
Kreisel cooperates with manufacturers, fleet operators, and cab and transport companies to produce custom-made batteries for small production runs of up to 500 vehicles, or to produce its battery technology under license. The company has tested its battery packs in electric conversions of the Porsche Panamera, Skoda Yeti and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
