Taiwan Semiconductor introduces new 1,200 V automotive-grade diodes

Taiwan Semiconductor has launched a new series of 1,200 V automotive-grade PLA and PLD low-loss diodes, targeting efficiency-focused power electronics and EV applications. The series comes in three package types: ThinDPAK, D2PAK-D, and TO-247BD, all using an industry-standard pinout for straightforward design integration.

The diodes provide ratings of 15 A, 30 A or 60 A, with a maximum forward voltage drop of 1.3 V and low reverse leakage of less than 10 microamperes at 25 degrees Celsius. Devices support high junction temperature operation up to 175 degrees Celsius. Six models are available, including two (PLAD15QH and PLDS30QH) with full AEC-Q qualification for automotive-grade use.

Key applications cited by Taiwan Semiconductor include EV charging stations, on-board battery chargers, Vienna rectifiers, totem pole and bridgeless topologies, three-phase AC/DC converters and power inverters for both electric vehicles and high-power computing. The company also notes compatibility with uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems and general-purpose power rectification in demanding environments.

Design resources include comprehensive datasheets, SPICE models, Foster and Cauer thermal models, and CAD files for symbols, footprints and 3D models. Samples are in stock at authorized distributors such as DigiKey and Mouser, with production lead times listed at eight to fourteen weeks after receipt of order.

“Our new automotive-grade 1,200V diodes increase efficiency by dropping into existing applications using an industry standard pinout,” said Sam Wang, vice president, TSC Products. “Their low loss also makes sure new designs and applications can take advantage of the lower power dissipation, including a wide range of power electronics applications where performance and reliability are critical.”
