Littelfuse introduces new 1,000 VDC-rated fuse for EVs

The latest circuit protection product from Littelfuse is a new 1,000 VDC-rated fuse designed for protecting the on-board chargers, battery distribution units, battery packs, converters, inverters and auxiliary loads of EVs from overcurrent. The company says the new fuse is “the first automotive-grade fuse with a rating of 1,000 VDC.”

The EV1K Series fuses are available in boxes with 60 fuses each. According to Littelfuse, the fuses have “integrated bolt-down terminals that are durable against mechanical vibration and shock, which increases product life and longevity,” an interrupting rating of 30,000 A and an operating temperature range from -55 degrees to 125 degrees Celsius.  Also, the company says the RoHS-compliant fuses are free of Halogen and Pb.

“There is a clear need for more robust safety solutions as the eMobility market transitions from 500 VDC to 800 VDC pack voltages,” said VP of Business Development for xEV/AEB at Littelfuse Juergen Scheele. “The EV1K series fuses are designed to withstand severe automotive environments, providing 1,000 VDC-rated automotive-grade solutions with amperages from 60 A to 125 A. Fuses up to 600 A are also under development.”
