German machine and tool manufacturer GROB says it’s preparing for the rapid electrification of the car industry by developing manufacturing equipment for the mass production of EVs, specifically for motors and batteries.

To speed up the development of its own equipment, GROB acquired Italian mechanical engineering company DMG meccanica in 2017, renaming it GROB Italy. GROB also built a dedicated e-mobility development center at its Mindelheim, Germany headquarters, where the company is creating engineering processes for series production of electric motors and battery modules.

GROB says its portfolio of machines covers the entire manufacturing process for electric motors, including the various methods of wire winding and forming, assembly and contacting. For stator production , GROB offers wave winding technology, the hairpin method and the fan coil technology. GROB Italy covers the inserting technology and needle winding.

“GROB is currently working on several projects for electric drives in the international automotive industry,” says German Wankmiller, Chairman of the Board and CEO. “As a general contractor, we are already able to handle large orders and offer machines and systems for electric motors, battery modules and fuel cells.”
