Westwater Resources, an energy technology and critical minerals company focused on developing battery-grade natural graphite, has received a US patent for graphite purification methods.
In August 2020, Westwater Resources filed its first patent application for the method of graphite purification to be employed at the Kellyton Graphite Processing Plant under construction in Alabama.
Unlike conventional purification methods that often rely on hydrofluoric acid, Kellyton’s Phase 1 process does not use the hazardous substance. The company aims to become a leader in sustainable production of battery-grade natural graphite.
“This patent protects our environmentally-friendly purification technology and underscores Westwater’s leadership as the most advanced, US-based producer of battery-grade natural graphite,” said Terence Cryan, the company’s Chairman of the Board.
