Here’s a gift that will satisfy both the EV fan and the hydrogen partisan on your Christmas list. The Tyrano, from California-based Vision Industries Corp. (OTCBB:VIIC) is a street-legal hydrogen plug-in electric hybrid 80,000-lb class 8 truck. This week, Vision announced a purchase order agreement with Total Transportation Services of Rancho Dominquez, California, for 100 Tyranos, with an option to purchase 300 more.
Powered by Vision’s proprietary fuel cell technology, the Tyrano is a true zero-emission vehicle with the range of a hybrid. It’s designed for local and regional drayage – transporting containerized cargo between ocean ports and rail or truck depots. The company has developed its products in cooperation with the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, which are major players in the development of low- and zero-emission drayage vehicles.
Vision CEO Martin Schuermann said, “It has been a long road from our letter of intent signed a year ago to the closing of definite agreements. However, it was a very productive process in which we could identify specific needs of the trucking industry and translate those needs into our technology.”
“This Purchase Order demonstrates that the trucking industry has embraced the zero-emission platform,” said Vic La Rosa, President of Total Transportation Services. “It will give regulatory agencies comfort in finally pushing the zero-emission technologies that are needed.”
