Rhopoint Components offers ultra-precision current sense resistors

UK-based Rhopoint Components, a specialist distributor of precision electronic components, sensors, connectors and modular systems, has announced the availability of Alpha Electronics’ RBF ultra-precision current sense resistor series from VPG Foil Resistors.

The VPG Foil Resistors RBF series offers low resistances of between 0.01 Ω and 1 Ω, all in a small two-terminal flip-chip package in which the component is mounted upside down onto a substrate. This enables a more compact design and improved performance compared to traditional wire bonding methods.

By using VPG Foil Resistors’ Bulk Metal foil resistor technology, the resistors can offer low tolerances down to 0.5%, as well as a low TCR of 10 ppm/C between -25° C and 125° C.

The ultra-precision current sense flip-chip resistor has a power rating of 1 W at its maximum rated operating temperature of 70° C. It operates in a full temperature range from -65° C up to 155° C.

The temperature rise on the resistor surface can be optimized by using a board made of metal. This limits the temperature rise, allowing increased power rating of the parts, for example 2 W at +70° C. The temperature of the board should be less than 90° C when using glazed epoxy board, the company said.
