Lithium ceramic battery (LCB) developer ProLogium Technology has introduced a new silicon composite anode battery, which Germany’s FEV Group is using to develop a next-generation battery pack.
According to the companies, the new battery system can reduce vehicle weight, increase energy efficiency, and improve charging speed. The system offers energy density of 749 Wh/L, and ProLogium expects to increase that figure to 823 Wh/L by the end of 2024.
ProLogium’s modular design allows for individual cells to be removed, facilitating easier repairs and cell recycling, which in turn could reduce maintenance costs and increase the resale value of used EVs.
“Over the past two years, our collaboration has resulted in customized battery packs and concept designs that not only meet, but exceed regulatory standards and market demands. Due to the significantly increased specific energy of the LLCB cell of 321 Wh/kg, the energy storage system can be designed to be smaller and lighter for a vehicle with a targeted driving range, thus reducing power and space requirements,” said Dr. Thomas Hülshorst, Global Vice President Electric Powertrain at FEV.
