Northern Graphite starts sampling LDI graphite for battery anode materials

Canadian producer Northern Graphite is supplying samples of three standard battery anode material (BAM) products, as well as its Porocarb material, to manufacturers of lithium-ion and solid-state batteries.

Northern’s demonstrator grades, produced using graphite from the company’s Lac des Iles (LDI) mine in Quebec acquired in 2022, are engineered to drive battery performance and meet industry standards for particle size, tap density and surface area.

Northern’s Battery Materials division was formed a year ago through its acquisition of the battery assets and R&D team of German precious metal refiner Heraeus. The acquisition included licensing the IP to develop, produce, and sell Porocarb, a high-performance porous hard carbon material.

“We are now offering samples for testing and pre-qualification of three different BAM products, each with its own unique properties to enhance battery performance and efficiency,” said Dr. Moritz Hantel, Northern Graphite’s VP of Innovation and Product Management.
