Motor Design Limited (MDL) has released version 13 of its Motor-CAD software, a design tool for fast multiphysics simulation. Motor-CAD enables engineers to evaluate motor topologies and concepts across the full torque-speed operating range, to produce designs that are optimized for performance, efficiency, and size. 

There are more than 25 new or enhanced features in this latest release, including:

• Up to 150% faster calculations
• Multi-physics system-level simulation
• Faster force analysis and powerful visualization of the electromagnetic forces and modal shapes
• Ability to export animations to GIF files
• ANSYS Maxwell 3D export option enables users to export models from Motor-CAD to ANSYS Maxwell in seconds
• Close-coupled transient solution enables users to carry out multi-physics drive cycle analysis with coupled electromagnetic, thermal, and control models
• New hairpin winding templates
