Gigavac’s new sealed high-power contactor is rated for 1,000 amps continuous duty

Gigavac has announced an addition to its line of Advanced Switching Solutions. The new GX110 contactor is rated for continuous duty up to 1,000 amps, and is capable of switching high current loads at voltages up to 800 DC.

A contactor is an electromechanical device that switches high voltage and current by means of a low-level control voltage – similar to a relay, but more robust and capable of switching highly inductive loads. In an EV propulsion system, a contactor is installed between the battery pack output and the motor controller input so that battery power can be applied or interrupted with the vehicle’s key switch.

The Gigavac GX110 was developed for applications where both high voltages and high currents need to be controlled with the certainty of galvanic isolation. Gigavac’s EPIC  hermetic seal allows the GX110 to be used in nearly any environment – at temperatures from -55° C to 90° C (up to 200° C with special coils), or even underwater.

“Several customers have asked for a one-thousand-amp contactor, and we now offer it as a standard product,” said Markus Beck, Gigavac’s VP of Power Products. “It provides a compact solution to high-current application requirements and, with the EPIC seal, the GX110 can be mounted virtually anywhere in a system.  Plus the GX110 is excellent value for a one-thousand-amp sealed contactor.”
