Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has handed over the first e-Crafter electric vans to customers from Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands and Sweden, who will be testing the new vans in everyday use until mid-2018.
The customers include package delivery services, energy suppliers, trade businesses and individual retailers whose vehicles cover between 70 and 100 km per day, sometimes with hundreds of starts and stops. These parameters apply to around 85% of urban commercial trips, according to analyses performed by VW. The e-Crafter has been tailored precisely to these typical city operations and distances with its 100 kW power output, 99-mile range and 56 mph top speed.
The e-Crafter’s battery is completely integrated into the underbody. The entire cargo volume (10.7 square meters) is fully usable; maximum payload is between 1.0 and 1.75 tons depending on the version.
The e-Crafter will be available in September 2018.
