Vishay releases AEC-Q200 qualified 30 W power resistor for high-reliability automotive electronics

Vishay Intertechnology has announced a new 30 W thick film power resistor, the Sfernice LTA 30, qualified to AEC-Q200 standards and packaged in a compact TO-220 form factor for direct heatsink mounting. The component is engineered for high reliability and durability in demanding automotive environments, targeting next-generation electric vehicle and hybrid systems.

The LTA 30 power resistor operates in high-humidity conditions and withstands temperatures up to 125 °C. Vishay says the device features a high operating voltage of 500 V and overload capability of 1.5 times rated power for five seconds, enabling stability during electrical transients and high voltage events. It is designed to support critical automotive functions requiring consistent performance under mechanical vibration and electrical stress.

With resistance values ranging from 0.010 ohms to 450 kilo-ohms and tolerances down to ±1 percent, Vishay identifies key EV applications including use as precharge and discharge resistors in on-board chargers, battery management systems and motor control circuits. Additional features include a non-inductive design and high dielectric strength rated at 1500 volts root mean square. The device is compliant with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive.
