SK Innovation to build battery separator plant in Poland

Korean energy company SK Innovation will invest nearly $376 million to build a Li-ion battery separator (LiBS) plant in Województwo Śląskie, Poland. The plant will contain four LiBS units and three ceramic coated separator (CCS) units.

The plant will break ground in the third quarter of this year and is scheduled to begin mass production in the third quarter of 2021. Annual capacity is estimated at 340 million square meters of LiBS and 130 million square meters of CCS.

SK Innovation has announced plans to build plants in other countries, including China and Poland. Currently the company produces 360 million square meters of LiBS per year in Jeungpyeong, Chungcheongbuk-do, Korea, and it says the completion of the new overseas plants will increase  production capacity to 1.2 billion square meters per year.
