Oerlikon Graziano presents transmissions for hybrids and EVs

Transmission specialist Oerlikon Graziano presented several transmission systems designed for hybrid and electric vehicles at last month’s VDI Wissenforum in Friedrichshafen, Germany.

The electric products on display included the 2SED, a dual-speed seamless-shifting transaxle that can be coupled with a transversal electric motor, for front or rear full electric axle; and the 4SED, a new compact, lightweight multispeed transmission that boasts increased efficiency, seamlessly smooth shifting and a scalable design.

OGeco, a dual-clutch, six-speed hybrid transmission for supercars, is designed to be lighter and more compact than traditional DCTs, with “torque infill” to reduce shift shock.

Also on display is Oerlikon Graziano’s new 2 Speed Automated Manual Transmission. A fully electric transmission for AWD city cars or pure EVs, the 2 speed AMT can be used singly, to provide the advantages of a multispeed transmission to pure electric vehicles; or applied to two independent axles, making the vehicle AWD and allowing seamless shifting.

Company spokesman Paolo Mantelli said, “Our new transmission concepts will advance the development of electric vehicles. They are the most suitable for a modern full electric or even hybrid vehicle, allowing the best sizing of the electric motor and usage of batteries’ power.”
