In one of the largest fleet orders of EVs to date, FedEx has ordered 1,000 electric vans from California EV startup Chanje. The delivery giant said it will buy 100 Chanje V8100 vans outright, and will lease the remaining 900 from fleet management specialist Ryder System, which Chanje has designated its exclusive sales channel and service partner.
The Chanje V8100 van is manufactured in Hangzhou, China by FDG Electric Vehicles, which is also Chanje’s main investor. It offers a range of approximately 150 miles, 675 cubic feet of cargo space, and cargo capacity of about 6,000 pounds.
FedEx says it will use the electric vans for “commercial and residential pick-up and delivery services in the United States.”
“FedEx continually seeks new ways to maximize operational efficiency, minimize impacts and find innovative solutions through the company’s Reduce, Replace, Revolutionize approach to sustainability,” said FedEx Chief Sustainability Officer Mitch Jackson.
