Transit provider Keolis, which operates fleets of electric buses in the Netherlands, Norway and several cities in France, has added two 100% electric bus rapid transit lines to its Chronoplus network, which serves eleven municipalities in the Basque Country in southwestern France.
The electric buses serving the new lines were built by the Spanish manufacturer Irizar. Each is 18 meters long, and has a capacity of 150 passengers.
The vehicles have both AC and DC charging systems. Fast chargers at the terminus stations can top up the battery packs in 5, and AC chargers at the depots can fill up the packs in 3 to 4 hours.
The 24 stations on the bus rapid transit lines have been upgraded with improved access for disabled users, updated passenger information terminals and automatic ticket machines. A park-and-ride facility offering free parking for riders has also been created at the Tarnos/Garròs station.
