Dana introduces new e-axles and e-gearboxes for agricultural equipment

Under its Spicer brand of OE and aftermarket components, Ohio-based parts supplier Dana has unveiled new e-mobility technologies for field sprayers and telehandlers used in agriculture.

The new Spicer Electrified e-Axles are designed for telehandlers with load capacities up to 6,600 lbs. Dana says its new Spicer Electrified e-Gearbox features a compact design that manages high input speeds and provides superior power density.

Through its Spicer Smart Suite Intelligent Load Monitoring System (ILMS), Dana can leverage telehandler vehicle data to improve performance and reduce total cost of ownership. The ILMS uses data-harvesting technologies across the vehicle to prevent tip-over incidents, supply calibration management, and estimate axle attitude.

To create an electric drive system for field sprayers, Dana combined its existing Spicer Torque-Hub planetary wheel drive with its own e-motors. The Torque-Hub drives provide 8,100 to 19,000 lb-ft of torque and feature a steerable, four-wheel-drive configuration.

“From telehandlers that accomplish a variety of work functions to sprayers that perform a single task continuously over several hours, the diversity of duty cycles across applications presents engineering challenges for agriculture equipment manufacturers on the path to electrification,” said Dana president Aziz Aghili.
