The City of St. Albert, a suburb of Edmonton, Alberta, has ordered three battery-electric buses from BYD, which will be delivered by early fall of this year.
Each bus has a range of up to 250 kilometers.
St. Albert chose BYD buses because of the Chinese company’s 12-year battery warranty, and because BYD was able to demonstrate that its battery technology will be reliable in Alberta’s brutal winters, proving through testing that its batteries can function below -40 degrees Celsius.
“The three 35-foot electric buses will operate on both local and commuter transit routes, making the system cleaner and quieter for St. Albert residents,” said St. Albert Mayor Nolan Crouse.
