Zero motorcycles recalled

Zero Motorcycles is recalling some of its electric motorbikes to fix a problem with the battery packs. The recall affects 2012 models S, DS, X, XU, and XU-LSM. According to the company, “insufficient weatherproofing may cause a short circuit of the battery management system when subjected to wet conditions, resulting in the motorcycle inadvertently losing power.”

About 254 units are affected. Zero will notify owners, and dealers will repair the motorcycles free of charge. Owners may contact the company at 1-888-786-9376, call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236, or go to www.safercar.gov.
