A year after launching its lineup of urban EVs, French auto giant PSA Peugeot Citroen has booked 6,000 orders and delivered nearly 4,000 cars. The Peugeot iOn and the Citroen C-ZERO, both rebadged versions of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, went on sale in Europe in late 2010. The group’s EV offerings also include twin light-duty commercial vans, the Peugeot Partner Origin and Citroen Berlingo First.
According to the company, 90 percent of EV sales so far have been to corporate and government buyers.
The iOn…that is, the C-Zero…er, the i-MiEV…the five-door hatchback in question has a 47-kW (64-hp) electric motor, a maximum speed of 81 mph, and a range of about 81 miles. In the global sales race, it’s neck-and-neck with the Nissan Leaf at the moment – 17,000 have been delivered worldwide.
