Modine adds EV Cabin Climate System to portfolio

Modine Manufacturing, a 100-year-old heating and cooling systems manufacturer, has announced its new Cabin Climate System, a temperature control and heating and cooling system for the passenger cabins of commercial, off-highway and specialty EVs.

The Cabin Climate System is designed to ensure “optimal passenger comfort,” and can provide immediate heating and cooling without the need for a warm-up period, according to the company. It offers 12 kW of cooling capacity, 10 kW of heating capacity, and is designed to be both lightweight and modular.

The new design will allow the Cabin Climate System to “seamlessly integrate into the vehicle’s chassis to reduce design complexity,” the company said. Its functions are provided by smart electric components including an ingress-protected high-voltage electric compressor, a high-voltage coolant heater and coolant pump, and Modine’s proprietary heat exchangers.

“Cabin heating and cooling are crucial for EV passenger and operator comfort,” CCS Product Manager Sarah Williams said, adding that the company designed the CCS to simplify the challenges engineers face when interconnecting HVAC systems.
