Lithium-boron supplier ioneer signed a binding offtake supply agreement for lithium carbonate with Prime Planet Energy & Solutions (PPES), a battery company joint venture of Toyota and Panasonic.
ioneer will produce lithium carbonate at its Ryholite Ridge operation in Nevada, and deliver 4,000 tons per year to PPES over the course of 5 years. ioneer expects production to start in 2025. PPES plans to use the lithium carbonate to refine and produce lithium for EV batteries in the US market.
According to ioneer, 4,000 tons per year “represents approximately 19% of annual output in the first 5 years of production.”
“ioneer is expected to produce an annual average of approximately 20,600 tons of lithium carbonate/hydroxide along with approximately 174,400 tons of boric acid per year over the Rhyolite Ridge project’s 26-year life,” says the company.
