Hyundai Ioniq will be offered in hybrid, PHEV and EV versions

Hyundai’s upcoming five-door hatchback, which will be launched next month in South Korea, and will come in hybrid, PHEV and EV versions, has been dubbed the Ioniq, at least in the UK (the news comes from Hyundai’s UK division, and has not yet been confirmed by Hyundai Motors America).

According to Green Car Reports, the new vehicle is based on the next-generation Elantra, and the hybrid version is likely to feature a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with a single electric motor, the same powertrain found in the 2016 Tucson Eco.

Little is known about the battery electric version, but it seems likely that its powertrain will be a newer generation of the system used in the Kia Soul EV.
