California’s Rialto Unified School District, which operates a fleet of 68 school buses serving 29 schools, has ordered two Synapse 72 electric school buses from GreenPower Motor Company, for delivery by the summer of 2018.

GreenPower offers a range of electric buses with low-floor or high-floor bodies.  GreenPower’s e-bus is based on a clean-sheet design, and uses a custom battery management system and a proprietary Flex Power system for the drive motors.

GreenPower uses global suppliers for key components – the two drive motors are from Siemens, the brakes are made by Knorr, the axles by ZF, and the dash and control systems by Parker. This OEM platform allows GreenPower to meet the specifications of various operators while providing standard parts for ease of maintenance.

“Our new Los Angeles sales office is located near the Rialto Unified School District, so we’ll be able to show customers our products in action,” said GreenPower President Brendan Riley.

“Our partnership with GreenPower and with the South Coast Air Quality Management District, who provided grant funding, will enable our district to serve our students’ needs in an environmentally friendly manner,” said Rialto Associate Superintendent of Business Services Mohammad Z. Islam.
