Netherlands-based marine energy storage supplier EST-Floattech is providing its Octopus Series High Energy battery system to power the Dutch shipbuilder Damen’s Multi Cat (MuC) 1908 work boat’s fully electric propulsion and equipment.
The Octopus battery system is designed for large-scale applications and heavy-duty operations that use systems up to 10 MWh. The Multi Cat’s battery has a capacity of nearly 2 MWh. This ensures the vessel can sail for up to 10 hours on a single charge, reaching speeds up to 7 knots, or provide bollard pull up to 7 tonnes. As a multi-purpose work boat, the MuC 1908 E supports activities such as towing, dredging and anchor handling.
“This collaboration with Damen Shipyards on the Multi Cat 1908 Electric highlights the potential of our battery solutions in large applications, and shows the impact of innovation in maritime electrification. The Damen Multi Cat 1908 Electric is an example of the industry’s ability to embrace sustainable technology in work boat concepts that have been traditionally diesel-driven,” said Jelle Meindertsma, Sales Manager at EST-Floattech.
