ElectroMotive offers a comprehensive EV buyer’s guide

Chevy Volt Charging Plug-in 1

Car buyers have a growing array of options for going electric, especially in California. However, getting the information they need to decide which plug-in vehicle meets their needs is no simple task – getting objective information from auto dealers has always been difficult, and many of them are sadly uninformed about EVs.

A new web site called ElectroMotive has come to the rescue with an impressively comprehensive trove of information. A joint effort of the 11th Hour Project and Insight Campaigns, the site describes itself as “a virtual EV showroom built exclusively for Los Angeles.” While some of the models described are available only in California, most are or will be available nationwide, and much of the information here is applicable to car buyers anywhere in the world.

ElectroMotive’s Shop section lists 29 EV and PHEV models, and each has its own page with a wealth of information: lots of photos, a review, a full list of features and specs, and the list price. For each car, there’s also a link to a third-party review and a direct link to the manufacturer’s web site.

First-time plug-in shoppers should start with the Learn section, which explains the reasons for going electric, the differences between EVs and PHEVs, the basics of range and charging, and an overview of the purchase incentives available.

The Match section asks users about their requirements for a vehicle, and selects a couple of the most appropriate of available models based on their answers.
