CorePower Magnetics receives $5-million ARPA-E grant to scale magnet production for EVs

CorePower Magnetics has received a $5-million grant from the DOE’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) Seeding Critical Advances for Leading Energy Technologies (SCALEUP) program, which it will use for scaling its magnetic solutions for EVs and EV charging. The company is also planning to open a new manufacturing line in Pittsburgh.

Commercialization partners Eaton and John Deere will support CorePower as part of the program.

“The potential of EVs and renewables has created a demand for more efficient and power-dense magnetics so that EVs can travel farther and charge faster, and the grid can adequately handle growth in demand,” said CorePower CEO Dr. Sam Kernion. “We’re thrilled to have been selected through the extremely competitive ARPA-E SCALEUP process and are looking forward to increasing our manufacturing roots in the Pittsburgh region.”
