BYD to deliver 106 electric buses to Finland

Electric bus maker BYD has secured its first order from Finland. Nobina, a bus transport group that operates throughout the Nordic region, has ordered 64 BYD e-buses for service in Helsinki and 42 for service in Turku.

Nobina’s order for its Helsinki fleet includes 20 of BYD’s 40-foot low-floor models and 44 60-foot articulated models. Deliveries are to begin in 2021.

Nobina will be the first transit operator in Europe to order BYD’s latest 50-foot, three-axle low-floor e-bus. The new model features a 47+3 seating capacity and delivers a range of 400 km (approximately 250 miles) under test conditions. A total of 42 of the new vehicles will go into service in Turku, on Finland’s southwest coast, in summer 2021.

Nobina has already been operating BYD electric buses for 5 years, and has logged over 4.3 million miles, which it estimates has reduced its CO2 emissions by approximately 7,500 tons.
