Volkswagen to launch European-made entry-level EVs

German automaker Volkswagen has announced a program to promote entry-level electric mobility by introducing compact EVs to the European market priced at around €20,000. The cars are scheduled to launch in 2027.

The company says work is already underway on the Electric Urban Car Family, and Volkswagen’s Brand Group Core is set to offer EVs for under €25,000 as early as the end of 2025. Plans call for two compact cars—one from VW and one from CUPRA—and two small SUVs—one from Škoda and one from VW—all of which will be manufactured in Spain.

“For electromobility to become widespread, attractive vehicles are needed, especially in the entry-level segment,” said Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand and head of the Brand Group Core.
