Polestar, Volvo’s electric performance sub-brand, has opened a new production center in Chengdu, China, where it will produce the Polestar 1 electric performance hybrid. Polestar also received a World Manufacturer Identifier, certifying the brand as a standalone car company. The Chengdu facility will produce vehicles for China and global export markets. Deliveries are expected before the end of 2019.
The Polestar 1 features a carbon fiber body, 600 hp, and 1,000 Nm of torque. The company aims to produce 500 Polestar 1s per year over the next three years at the new facility.
In early 2020, Polestar plans to begin production of the Polestar 2 at a facility in Luqiao, China.
