Webinar: Why Model Batteries?

A detailed understanding of battery technology and the underlying physics processes is necessary to design high-performance, durable, and safe batteries. Physics-based modeling is being used for building accurate simulations of batteries, incorporating different aspects through predefined physics-based interfaces, from detailed structures in a battery’s porous electrode to the battery pack scale, including thermal management systems…. Miami-Dade to buy 42 Proterra electric transit buses and 75 chargers

Miami-Dade Transit has ordered 42 electric transit buses from commercial vehicle OEM Proterra (NASDAQ: PTRA). The agency will also install 75 Proterra chargers across three bus depots. The 42 Proterra ZX5+ 40-foot e-buses pack a total of 19 megawatt-hours of battery storage capacity, and the charging installation will crank out a total of 9 megawatts… Read more »

VIA Motors secures order for 2,000 Class 3 electric chassis cabs

VIA Motors is one of the most venerable names in the commercial EV space—we’ve been covering the company since its 2010 founding. The company got a lot of early press, thanks to its mediagenic chairman, the unlikely EV pioneer Bob Lutz, but later dropped off the radar. The commercial EV market has been frustratingly slow… Read more »

New Hampshire utility to offer EV owners special rates in V2G program

Utilities around the country are experimenting with vehicle-to-grid (V2G) systems. Now the New Hampshire Electric Co-op plans to offer its members real-time energy rates that will allow them to earn revenue from their EVs and battery storage devices. The co-op plans to offer members a “transactive energy rate” as soon as the end of this… Read more »

Power electronics thermal limits and how to not exceed them

To someone who isn’t involved in power electronics design, it might seem unreal that the amount of power a component can handle depends more on how effectively waste heat can be removed from it than it does on the specific electrical ratings. Sure, the voltage and current ratings are important (especially the voltage rating), but… Read more »

Addressing today’s challenges for EV battery technologies (Webinar)

Amid the growing interest in battery electric vehicles, the industry still faces numerous challenges to gain wider adoption in the market. Join this session at our Fall Virtual Conference on EV Engineering, presented by Chroma, where we will address the battery-specific issues manufacturers are encountering today. Reserve your spot—it’s free! Other sessions at our Spring… Read more »

TWAICE battery analytics platform promises enormously valuable insights at every point in a battery’s lifecycle

How healthy is your battery pack? As the old saw goes, if you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it. As the EV ecosystem develops, there will be an increasing need to measure and manage the performance of battery cells. Cell manufacturers need a standardized way to evaluate test data for new cells; EV designers… Read more »

Duke Energy to use Ford F-150 Lightning electric trucks in V2G pilot

Duke Energy is planning a new demand response pilot in the Duke Energy Carolinas service area. Under the program, which is expected to launch in 2023, customers who lease an eligible EV, including the Ford F-150 Lightning, will get reduced lease payments in exchange for allowing their EVs to feed energy back to the grid….
