This presentation will discuss fault analysis, protection and switch-disconnection in Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure from transformer LV side, passing through the AC/DC front-end converter to the DC fast-chargers.

This session will analyze the short-circuit and ground fault transient and steady-state condition considering all the contributions coming from the AC grid and the all the bidirectional DC chargers installed in parallel with the relevant car battery connected. And show how to protect against such faults guaranteeing the selectivity with the DC charger internal protective devices.

Presented by Marco Carminati, Global Application Specialist on Direct Current, ABB. Marco holds a Master‘s degree and a Ph.D. degree in Electric Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Milan (Italy) with a thesis on the fault analysis and protection in LVDC Microgrids with front-end converters. He is a member of Italian Standard Authority (CEI) and of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Direct Current working group.
