Silicones are increasingly being used in the EV market for sealing applications where exceptional performance is required, such as sealing the battery case and battery management system. These materials are valued in particular for their low compression set, excellent protection against external influences and very good fire behavior, which is often qualified according to UL94-V0.

With the demand for silicones consistently increasing, there is not enough free production capacity in the market and battery pack manufacturers are forced to accept longer lead times or seek out new material suppliers. And with the enormous price increases being imposed on silicone raw materials, finished products containing silicone materials are more expensive than ever. Luckily, alternative solutions do exist that can help to alleviate some of the stress of the silicone shortage on the EV market, and they may even offer a benefit in performance in your application.
