XALT Energy has launched the XPAND Low Profile (XLP) Pack, a high-energy-density battery pack for commercial EVs. The XLP Pack measures 185 mm high, 612 mm wide, and between 360 and 1,080 mm long, depending on energy capacity. Designed to fit within the frame rails of trucks and buses, the pack can be mounted horizontally or vertically.
The XLP Pack will use XALT Energy’s large-format cells, and will offer energy densities in excess of 260 Wh/l (specific energies greater than 210 Wh/kg). The pack will be liquid-cooled and feature an IP67-rated enclosure. Multiple packs can be connected in series up to 1,250 V.
Production of the battery pack is scheduled to begin at the company’s 460,000-square-foot manufacturing plant in Midland, Michigan in 2021.
Martin Klein, Senior VP of Engineering, said, “The XLP Pack allows customers to take advantage of XALT’s most advanced lithium-ion battery innovations without requiring significant vehicle design modifications. As regulators continue to toughen air quality and emission standards in cities, fleet owners will increasingly rely on battery electric buses and trucks to meet urban transportation needs. The XLP Pack will facilitate easier implementation of XALT’s lithium-ion battery solutions.”
