Heliox, a manufacturer of power conversion equipment, has delivered its CCS 700 V charger to fellow Dutch firm VDL Bus and Coach. VDL’s Citea electric bus will be joining the fleet of Swedish transport operator Byberg & Nordin. Heliox says this will be the first European e-bus to use the Combined Charging System (CCS) standard.
Standardization efforts are underway for e-bus charging, via the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and International Association of Public Transport (UITP). An electric bus charging standard will be largely based on CCS (IEC 15118 & IEC61851-23/24 / DIN 70121), according to Heliox. This also includes CCS-plug derivatives, such as conductive opportunity charge systems like pantographs.
Designed for commercial & captive fleets, the Heliox Fast DC Charger series can recharge EVs at power levels from 43 kW to 120 kW.
