Nissan North America has announced its second voluntary service campaign for the Leaf. The software update is available free to all current owners of the electric hatchback.

According to Nissan spokesman Steve Yaeger, the update improves the accuracy of the range indicator, and makes a couple of improvements to the Carwings smartphone app. There’s also an additional “driver convenience alert” that makes a noise when a door is opened and the shift selector is not in Park (some may not consider this an improvement).

Nissan recommends that all owners install the upgrade, although it isn’t mandatory. “It’s something we strongly encourage everyone to do — the upgrades are quite useful and improve the ownership experience,” said Yaeger.
