Karma shows 3 plug-in vehicles at Shanghai auto show

California-based Karma Automotive presented 3 new vehicles at the recent Shanghai auto show. Karma’s “Shanghai Big Three” are: the 2020 Karma Revero GT, a PHEV that features a BMW three-cylinder in-line gas engine; the Karma Pininfarina GT coupe, a version of the Revero GT with a new body style, panels and interior designed by Italian design house Pininfarina; and the Karma SC1 Vision Concept, a fully electric roadster.

“This is the first major auto presence for Karma in China, and marks a significant moment by ushering in a new era for the company,” said Karma CEO Dr. Lance Zhou.

Karma, which was salvaged from the former Fisker in 2014 by the Wanxiang Group, now employs nearly 1,000 people at four sites in California, Michigan and Hangzhou, China.

Dr. Zhou explained the company’s “open-platform” philosophy: “We will use partnerships with like-minded collaborators to accelerate our progress by acquiring and developing key technologies important to connectivity, performance, artificial intelligence, shared mobility platforms and electrification. Partners can use our product platform as an incubator to test and prove their new innovations, and likewise, our engineering and design resources can be offered to help other partners advance their needs.”
