Germany-based FUCHS Lubricants has released its RENOLIT CX SWG 0-1 grease specifically engineered for automotive gears, including electric power steering systems.
The product is per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and lithium-free, motivated in part by increasing scrutiny on PFAS and lithium hydroxide, which are now under regulatory pressure from global bodies such as ECHA, REACH and the US EPA.
Formulated with a calcium complex thickener, RENOLIT CX SWG 0-1 operates effectively across a broad temperature range from -40° C to 130° C.
RENOLIT CX SWG 0-1 is designed to minimize noise and friction and is compatible with high-performance cast polymers extensively used in critical steering applications.
In testing, the RENOLIT CX SWG 0-1 demonstrated superior results in torque stability, temperature control and wear resistance compared to traditional grease formulations. Compared to lithium soap-based greases, it its 4 Ball Wear test result of 0.45 mm and 4 Ball EP Weld Load of 315 kgf demonstrated delivered higher wear protection. It also exhibited protection against heat ageing, preserving the structural integrity of the polymers and ensuring long-term durability.
The RENOLIT CX SWG 0-1’s anti-wear properties and optimized torque efficiency are critical for steering systems requiring low friction and minimal noise, vibration and harshness (NVH). This makes it well suited to electric and hybrid vehicle platforms where space constraints, higher rack forces and NVH performance are key considerations.
