The DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) has released a new funding opportunity (FOA) to support innovative transportation technologies.
This Vehicle Technologies Incubator FOA (not to be confused with ARPA-E’s OPEN 2015 FOA, which was also recently announced) will award a total of $14 million, and is open to “proposals that aim to bring to market a novel, non-incremental technology that is relevant to efficient and environmentally friendly transportation technologies reducing petroleum use.”
The DOE anticipates making awards that range from $500,000 to $3 million. Project periods will range from 12 to 36 months.
The DOE is looking for some new and bold thinking here – it says it will not consider projects that offer mere incremental improvements to existing technologies, or that are similar to existing DOE projects. And in case you were wondering, “technologies that violate the law of thermodynamics” are specifically excluded (darn!).
