EV and energy storage battery manufacturers face many unique challenges to bring new batteries to market. There are several “Masters to serve”: Transportation Authorities, Vehicle Certification Authorities, OEM’s and finally the customer. This discussion includes Li-ion battery transportation testing and shipping regulations, vehicle type approval regulations and standards, as well as common options for off-road or industrial applications and second-life applications for re-purposed batteries.

Presented by Rich Byczek, global technical director for Transportation Technologies at Intertek, based in Plymouth, MI. He has over 20 years of experience in automotive product development and validation testing, 16 of which have been spent at Intertek. Rich is experienced in the areas of energy storage, audio/infotainment equipment and EMC testing. Rich sits on several SAE, UN, IEC, UL and ANSI standards panels, focusing on electric vehicle, battery, and e-mobility technologies. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan.
